Distributed Systems

Distributed Filesystem

A shared remote filesystem where multiple users can navigate, edit, and synchronize files across replicated storage nodes from a custom shell.

Built with my friend Quinn Hynes for the final project of our Distributed Systems course.

Consistent replicated writes Reads use any available replica, while two-phase commits keep every replica in sync after an edit.
Failure-aware storage Heartbeats detect offline nodes, stable server IDs support rejoining, and logs and checkpoints survive restarts.
A usable filesystem shell Thirteen commands, permissions, renewable file locks, and direct Vim editing make the system practical to explore.
